Leesburg, VA (March 22, 2015) – The Loudoun County High School girls varsity basketball team finished their 2014-2015 season with a record of 25 – 3, making it all the way to the VHSL 4A state semi-final game.
The Lady Raiders had a strong start to the season with 2 landslide victories over Thomas Jefferson and Gar-field High School. They fell in their third game to Millbrook the the score 49 – 57. Said senior forward Chloe Knox, “the first Millbrook game made us realize we were going to have to work harder for our wins. Afterwards we really caught fire both in practice and in our drills.” Such fire was felt by their opponents with a 23-game win streak!
After close victories over Woodgrove (57 – 53) and Tuscarora High School (52 – 49), the later team of which competed in the VHSL 5A state semi-final game; the Lady Raiders were prepared to once again face Millbrook in the Conference 21 Tournament Championship game. County won the match 63 – 48, and claimed their 2nd consecutive conference tournament title.
After cruising through the 4A regional tournament with blow out victories over Fluvanna County and Chancellor High school, the Lady Raiders lost to William Fleming High School, 48 – 62. Despite the loss County moved on to compete against Midlothian High School in the VHSL 4A state semi-final match. After a tightly contested match, courtesy of a Midlothian run and defensive stop in the final 2-minutes of the game, County fell by the score 51 -55. (Midlothian was defeated by Monacan 57 – 65 for the state title. Monacan defeated William Flemming 58 -57 in the state semi-final match).
