Leesburg, VA (September 18, 2015) – Heritage High School senior Maddie Alexander has committed to play soccer for Frostburg State University beginning the 2016-2017 academic school year.
“It feels great and is such a big relief knowing where I will be going to college and playing the sport I love, said Alexander. And although the recruiting experience was exhausting in the beginning, when I finally came across Frostburg, something about them and their interest in me was much different from the other schools, and that really stood out to me and was a factor in making my final decision on September 7th.”
Located in the Appalachian highlands of western Maryland, Frostburg State University is a student-centered teaching and learning institution that offers students a distinctive and distinguished baccalaureate education along with a select set of applied masters and doctoral programs. The student-faculty ratio at FSU is 16:1, and half of the school’s classes have fewer than 20 students. The most popular majors at FSU include: Business Administration and Management, Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies, Psychology, Criminal Justice/Safety Studies, and Early Childhood Education and Teaching.
“There were many factors that went into making my decision such as liking the school and campus when I visited, liking the coach and finding out what he and his team are all about. Frostburg definitely felt like home and is definitely a good fit for me, said Alexander. I’m not exactly sure what to expect my first year, but I hope to enjoy my college experience both academically and athletically”
Alexander’s soccer coach will be Brian Parker. Coach Parker begins his 14th season as head coach of the Frostburg State’s womens soccer program. The 1992 FSU graduate, is the winningest Bobcat women’s soccer coach with a 182-61-29 record in his 13 seasons. Parker’s teams aren’t just winning on the field, as evidenced by his .723 winning percentage, but the Bobcats have won eight-straight NSCAA Team Academic honors and eight-straight NSCAA Team Ethics awards.
In her thirteen years of soccer, when asked about her fondest memories of playing Alexander shared, “It would definitely have to be beating Loudoun County in the district semi-finals of 2014 (my sophomore year) and everything about my junior high school season! Even though we lost in the state finals, I have never had a better season of soccer with any team I’ve ever played on. Being a part of Heritage’s soccer program is the one thing I cherish the most. The 2014-2015 season is not only my fondest memory of soccer, but also one of my fondest memories in general.”
“There are too many people to count for supporting me through my soccer career! I’m so thankful for my parents of course, because without them, none of this would have been possible. I’m also so thankful for my friends and teammates who have always been encouraging me on and off the field. Lastly, I’m so so thankful for all of my coaches who have guided me throughout the years, especially Gabriel Ascunce, Alberto Starace and Holly King.
For others that are in the midst of pursuing their dream, Alexander shared, “Even when things get tough, push through it, because it’s all worth it in the end. Don’t let anyone or anything get in the way of you and your dream.”
Please join us in wishing Maddie Alexander the very best in her success in the classroom and on the soccer field at Frostburg State University.
