Richmond, VA (Dec. 2, 2015) – The Potomac Falls Panthers volleyball program competed the season with a battle for the state championship trophy on Saturday, November 21st against conference foe Stone Bridge. Aaron Wyche had the honor of covering the Panthers throughout the 2015 campaign and posted the following PHOTO GALLERY of 295 images highlights their finals match-up.
Much can be said about the team, none better than that from the desk of head coach Linda Lachey-Helms:
“What a wonderful season this team has had. They so exceeded expectations!! Their goals were to put a banner on the wall and make it to the state tournament and they did it!! Yes we have Holly Carlton who can do it all but this is a team game and the other 5 people on the court need to do their jobs and believe they can. Kylie Thomas, a junior, is our other experienced and go to player but she is being recruited as a libero and we have her setting some and hitting outside at barely 5’8. Pair that with Molly Gloeckner a sophomore also hitting outside at 5’6 and we have the shortest outside hitters in 5A. We have a sophomore as an opposite and a 5’7 freshmen as a middle. We have another freshman who comes in as a DS. Our libero is a soccer player that only plays volleyball during the high school season and has turned into a great libero. With that combination these girls have worked together as a team to rise above the competition.
Our losses have been to Oakton, Battlefield who have both been ranked throughout the season in the top 10 in the Post. Madison who won the 6A and Langley who finished second. (we did beat Langley this season). We also beat Flint Hill this season who also won their championship. Other than those loses we only lost one to Briar Woods and then were 1-3 against Stone Bridge. We beat Briar Woods and then Stone Bridge to win the Regional Title (and that will put a banner on the wall).
I am so proud of these girls… they have learned lessons about themselves and their ability to overcome and believe in themselves that they will carry into their personal and professional lives.
