Richmond, VA (Feb. 20, 2017) – After completing an incredible regular season with an undefeated record and a 3A East Regional title, the Riverside Rams Girls Swim Team closed out the year by winning the VHSL 3A Swim & Dive State Championship on Saturday, February 18th in Richmond, VA. The title marked the first swim team state championship in Loudoun County public school history.
Riverside’s girls dominated the competition, outscoring the second place team, York High School, by 78 points — 270-192. Fourteen girls competed in the meet for the Rams, with 11 of them participating in the meet’s finals events. Of the 11 meet races, the Riverside girls captured first place in 5. They are:
Girls 200 Medley Relay – Ashley Bae, Hannah Ye, Claire Nguyen, Allison Kopac – 1:48.52
Girls 200 Freestyle – Claire Nguyen – 1:48.46 — A 3A State Meet Record and an Automatic All-America Qualifying Time
Girls 100 Freestyle – Allison Kopac – 51.15 – A 3A State Meet Record
Girls 500 Freestyle – Allison Kopac – 4:55.71
Girls 400 Freestyle Relay – Claire Nguyen, Ashley Bae, Hannah Ye, Allison Kopac – 3:34.98

The boy’s team finished in 8th place, a dramatic improvement from 17th in 2015-16. The Girl’s won the State Championship — the first State Swim & Dive Championship in Loudoun County Public Schools’ history.T
The Boy’s team had a strong showing, scoring 103 points to finish just 10 points behind seventh place finisher Cave Spring High School. Twelve Rams swimmers competed in the meet and they all swam well, with 10 of the boys qualifying for, and swimming in, the meet’s finals events.
Next year, Riverside moves out of 3A and into 4A. It was a great season and the Rams look forward to the challenges that next year will bring.
