Leesburg, VA (Jan. 2, 2018) – Tuscarora’s Michael Burnett has stepped down from the Head Football Coaching position, and was named the new football program head at Harvard-Westlake, Los Angeles, CA.
Burnett, the 2015 NFL Coach of the Year, is a 15-year coaching veteran and has amassed a 77-24 record as a head coach. He led Tuscarora to the VHSL 5A state championship game in both 2015 and 2017. Prior to coaching at Tuscarora, Burnett spent four years at Broad Run High School in Ashburn, VA, winning consecutive state championships.
Coach Burnett runs his program based off of three pillars: Commitment, Passion and Discipline. He does anything he can to make the school and community better for everyone.” said former Tuscarora Athletic Director and current Supervisor of Loudoun County Athletics Derek Farrey. “Coach Burnett believes the safety of his students athletes is paramount and has hosted USA Football Heads Up Football coaching clinics to ensure proper tackling techniques are being practiced.
Through his numerous contributions both in the classroom and on the field, Coach Burnett has been an integral part in forming the culture of not only the football program, but the school in general. He leaves Tuscarora High School better and stronger, having impacted thousands since the opening Tuscarora in 2010. The lasting relationships he has built in the school and community will transcend the distance and time between past, present and future.
